OPEN CALL: MOTHERHOOD / POSTPARTUM
Motherhood is not a soft-focus photograph.
It is blood. Milk. Sweat. Desire. Rage. Grief. Boredom. Obsession. Loneliness. Love. A body you no longer recognise. A body you suddenly know too well.
It is becoming someone else while trying to remember who you were.
For our upcoming issue, we’re looking for work that gets underneath the mythology of motherhood and into the messy, contradictory reality of it.
We want the stories that are too uncomfortable, too strange, too tender, too angry, too funny, too honest to fit neatly into the usual narrative.
Photography. Essays. Poetry. Personal writing. Interviews. Illustration. Art. Collage. Film. Fragments. Diaries. Experiments. Anything that has something to say.
Tell us about birth and what came after.
About your body. Your mind. Your relationships.
About sex, identity, ambivalence, grief, joy, resentment, boredom, isolation, desire.
About the parts nobody prepared you for.
About the things you were told not to say.
We’re not looking for perfect mothers or perfect stories.
We’re looking for the truth.
SUBMISSIONS ARE OPEN.
